Versions, autosave & resume

Today we are going to talk about versions, autosave and resume. Versions and autosave have caused quite some anger and confusion when it first was introduced. Pixelmator 2 on OS X lion has taken over OS X’s versioning and autosave system and it was only a matter of time before people got haywire on the Pixelmator forums about it. Personally I think most of the confusion and frustration is based on versions being new and people needing to get used to the fact that that closing an already existing document automatically saves it. So in this episode we’ll be going step by step through the saving and versioning process and at the end of this tutorial I hope you are able to understand the concepts behind autosave and versions.

As of november 22nd. The bug regarding the revert document option in the file menu, as mentioned in the tutorial is solved in Pixelmator 2.0.1

Shapes

This week we dive deeper into one of the new features in Pixelmator.. Shapes.

One of many complaints about the new Pixelmator 2 version is the lack of shapes… Yes that’s right. Pixelmator comes with a set of shapes but off course not everybody is happy because their favourite shape isn’t there.

Where is the arrow shape for example? Where is the donut shape? And the list goes on and on.

So today I’m going to show you how to use the shape tools to create a pixelmator document with your own custom shapes. This document you can have open in the background and you can drag and drop your custom shapes from there.
