OS X Lion introduced us to Autosave, Resume, versions , and working in the cloud. And Pixelmator has embraced these technologies to the fullest.

For some people Autosave and resume have been a lifesaver in the form that when Pixelmator crashed the file they worked on was still there. For others these new technologies have been a head-ache from the start.

In this tutorial I will try to explain the philosophy behind this new way of thinking file-management and the potential power behind it. I hope that for the die-hard mac/pc users who are conditioned thinking old-style file management, this tutorial will shed some light on why this new way of thinking file-management is crucial for entering the post pc-era.

Use Pixelmator to create rich colours and tones

Today I want to show you how you can get richer colours and tones out of your photographs, making them really stand out.

We start with this image here. And as you see it is a beautiful and amazing image already. Hard to believe we want to adjust things here. But I’m going to show you that you can get even more out of this shot.

The idea behind this tutorial comes from Lora Swinson and her tutorial how to get rich colors and tones when editing

Lifted image edges

Lifted image edges

In this new Pixelmator Tutorial episode I’m going to show you an easy way to create an image where some of the edges are slightly lifted from the background.

We start off with a new document. Choose any size you want but take into account the size and orientation of the image you want to import for this effect. For this example I will use 800×600 pixels.

Make sure the background is white. Be default it will be white but if you have changed this in the preferences you should manually fill the background layer with white.

Now on to importing the image we want to use.
