In my last tutorial about the paint selection tool I did a quick color replacement using an extra layer with a hue-blending mode. This method drew the attention of several of our viewers and today I will explain why I like this method over the other methods available for replacing color.

Pixelmator 2.2. blueberry not only got new shapes functions. It also got a whole new selection tool named the Paint Selection tool. It lets you easily paint a selection as if you were painting with a brush.

It basically is the magic wand tool in brush form, because while we paint it will try to expand the selection by guessing what else to select based on what we are currently covering with the brush.

For this tutorial I tried to discover what the paint selection tool has to offer over the magic wand tool. I wanted to find out where the paint selection tool could have an advantage over using the magic wand tool.

Finally after hearing about 3-5 months that a new release of Pixelmator would be coming soon, the wait is over. Today we could finally download Pixelmator 2.2 blueberry.

As you are used to we want to first give you a quick overview of all the changes in this new version and then in the upcoming tutorials dive much deeper into the new features.

Pixelmator 2.2 only comes with new features and no bug-fixes, which is very unfortunate. A lot of people have trouble with the bug in the transform tool where an image can get very blurry. According to the release notes this is thus not fixed yet along with other issues that have been reported in the past.

Since there are no bugs solved we can dive straight into the new features that come with the latest release of Pixelmator.
