Realistic ageing effect

I was watching a photoshop tutorial the other day where “blend if” sliders got demonstrated to add a realistic ageing effect to a logo on a wooden wall. What these blend if sliders in photoshop do is quite simple. They let you select pixels that you want to exclude from the image layer based on the underlying layer. So in my document here I can for example say that all the pixel values of my logo that overlay dark parts of the wooden background should be transparent. This way we can create some very realistic blending of layers without using layer blend modes.

This tutorial will show you how you can achieve exactly the same effect in Pixelmator without making use of “blend if” sliders.
