Hello, and welcome back to another Pixelmator tutorial! Today we’ll make a bevel effect but with lights inside – like on signs at the mall!
Open a new document. Fill the background with a dark color or gradient, but try not to include black. Tungsten from the Crayons palette is a good choice. Add a text or image to apply the bevel to. If you are using text, make sure the font has a large area or the effect won’t work.
Duplicate the image/text layer, and fill it with black.
Gaussian Blur the duplicated layer to about 10px
Invert (⌘+I) the black blurred layer. You see a nice beveled effect, and a glow from the conical flask, but we need to create more depth for the bevel.
Duplicate the original image, and fill the duplicated layer with black. Blur it to get a shadow inside, and you’re done!
